Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome to Launceston Big Picture School!

We are committed to preparing our students for the changing social, economic and technological society of the 21st Century. We know that a high quality of education for young people is critical to achieving a high quality of life.

Launceston Big Picture School is small by design, enabling a sense of belonging and a community where every student is known, valued and important.

Underpinning our approach is the belief that each student has a unique set of interests, needs and capabilities around which personalised learning can take place. Students are supported to explore their personal interests, combine academic work with real-world internships, and plan their own pathway to employment, further study or enterprise.

At Launceston Big Picture School, we cater for Year 9 through to Year 12. We like to keep our learning community small and build strong relationships between students, advisors (teachers) and families.

Year 11 and 12 students graduate from Big Picture School with an innovative new credential that is a non-ATAR pathway to employment, training college or university.  The International Big Picture Learning Credential is warranted by the University of Melbourne, and it recognises a wider range of capacities, skills and qualities than traditional end-of-school assessment systems.

Student achievements are represented in an interactive Learner Profile that combines academic results with personalised insights into the learning and work of students. It unlocks entry to over 16 universities around Australia with whom Big Picture has negotiated partnerships, and it provides employers with details of the interests, potential capabilities and achievements of young people.

As Principal of Launceston Big Picture School, I look forward to seeing our young people experiencing success and proudly sharing their learning with others. I also look forward to developing close partnerships with our parents, I encourage your regular connection to our school and your involvement in the learning of our young people.

Parents and families, please be actively involved in your child’s educational program; ask questions, speak to our advisory teachers, attend Learning Plan meetings and exhibitions.  Staff are committed to assisting you every step of the way.

I look forward to working with you towards a very productive and rewarding time at Launceston Big Picture School and beyond.
