EXCURSIONS

Government House Luncheon

On Tuesday, 8 December I was invited to a luncheon at Government House. Myself and a group from the CCYP (Commissioner for Children and Young People) arrived at Government house at 12:30pm and were greeted by Major Malcom McWilliams. We were then brought into the main hallway and told that we would be introduced to Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner and her husband Mr Richard Warner one by one. We then moved into the dining room and were instructed to sit down. We dined on roasted blue-eyed trevalla, orange hollandaise and Atlantic salmon roe. Then for dessert, we had cantaloupe and mandarin sorbet and fruit soup. During our meal, we discussed what role the Governor plays and many other things. After our meal, we were escorted back to the drawing-room and had some tea or coffee. Excitedly we began a tour of Government House and the surrounding grounds. Once we had finished our tour we all said our goodbyes and started the long journey home.

This experience was one that I will always remember, and I will always remember that the butler tried to give me a glass of wine.

Tamar Valley Tour

On Wednesday, 9 December Nick’s Advisory and Lauren did a tour of the Tamar Valley stopping at Grindelwald, Exeter & Hillwood. We played a round of mini golf at Grindelwald with Ryan Smith and Keely Woods getting below par. Lachlan Tonks was the only person to get a hole in one! In Exeter we visited the Bee Hive where the owner told us some fascinating and funny facts about bees. Then we ventured on to Hillwood where Nick surprised the group with a tour of his Airbnb bus house. Finally we visited the Hillwood Berry farm where we ate strawberries and sat in the sun while Lachlan and Finn played on the old Tractor. We also met the owner Simon Dornauf who explained how the business has evolved over the past 10 years and how they use technology to improve the amount and quality of the berries. It was great to spend the day with each other and visit these businesses in the Tamar Valley.
