LEARNING THROUGH INTERNSHIP

Year 2020 Learning Through Internships has proven to have some challenges and positive outcomes on how we offered LTI placements.  Looking back over the past four terms students were able to engage well either via online Informational Interviews, Speed Career sessions and virtual industry sessions.  We’ve learnt how to stay connected and communicate in our digital world.  Students have been committed and willing to work towards their LTI placements by thinking outside the box.  Reviewing our LTI data, evidence is a very high number of students were engaged in LTI placements, without the support of parents/guardians, family and friends this wouldn’t be possible.  A special thank you to all businesses in our community who have offered their time in mentoring, sharing their knowledge in supporting students to learn in the real world.

Bethany, Erin, Finn, Regina and Charlotte attended City Park Radio to pre-record for the Schools Out Program. Bethany led the group as the producer, while other students each discussed a session from music to National Car Museum and siblings.

Ryan Smith is in Year 10 and is in Nick Hill’s Advisory. He is interested in Building and Construction and recently had an LTI at Keyline Building and Maintenance. During his time with John he helped to put up scaffolding, replace guttering and fix roofing as required. Ryan thoroughly enjoyed his time with John from Keyline and hopes to continue with his passion for gaining a School-based Apprenticeship in the Building and Construction Industry in the near future. Thanks John for your support of Ryan!

Clay Townsend is in Year 9 in Sonja Peter’s Advisory. Recently Clay visited Jessup’s IT and Computers on Wellington Street. During his time there he worked with Chloe and learnt the method to replace an iPhone 8 screen and cleaned and restored iPhones to their original state. Clay also worked on laptops to install new drives and set up Applications that clients required. It was great to see Clay in action and learning on the job skills from Chloe who was a fantastic mentor. We thank Mark (owner) and Chloe for their support of our LTI Program at Big Picture School.

Seeing Erin in action as a Teacher’s Aide was amazing. Her support of the students was great, showing care and understanding for where each student was at with their learning was wonderful. Erin is from Sonja Peter’s Advisory and is in Year 10. She has a passion for helping others and this definitely showed in her recent LTI at Invermay Primary School with Debbie on Grade 2. Thanks Debbie for your guidance and support of Erin’s LTI.
