4. ACTIVE LEARNING GROUPS

Food & Cooking

Nutrition Solutions Tasmania

Cooking_2.jpgOn Monday 26th of March, Stephen Hodgkinson and his team from Nutrition Solutions Tasmania came to school to work in the kitchen. Stephen was leading his team around how to do cooking demonstrations whilst our students, Jasper, Grace, Molly and Cameron assisted with the food preparation. It was excellent to see our students working along side adults in an authentic learning environment.

Clint, from C & B Creative, was taking photos of the food for Nutrition Solutions Tasmania's social media campaign with Justine assisting Clint. We had lots of different people come in to cook with us and photographers who took some pictures while we were cooking. Working with the people that came in, was very interesting and fun because I got to see their cooking styles and learn about what they do. I also learnt new recipes that I could make in the future for someone or myself.

Monday’s cooking class was a great experience being able to discover and learn with nutritionists. The cooking was awesome, and I learnt about a few of Steve’s techniques he used in the kitchen and how flavours and different textures mix-together as well as how to make healthier and simpler deserts. I got to speak with a few of the other cooks and learnt about nutrition and allergies and how to adapt the food in different ways to be able to then cater for the allergies.

I really enjoyed being able to work with adults and a chef, it inspires the students and It makes the class feel more professional and gives myself and others a better experience.
