9A's First EVER Town Hall
Last Friday saw 9A take to the Town Hall stage to run our first ever Town Hall. Our MC’s Connor Harvey and Charly Hindrum kept events running smoothly throughout, and even held Adrian to a time limit during his Principal’s address for the week!
Our Advisory Challenge for the week saw Cameron Thomas and Genevieve Marshall organise an ‘Anatomy Lesson’. Each advisory was required to race to their rooms and cut and paste images of the bodies organ systems onto a blank torso of the human body. Despite their best efforts, it quickly became clear that a number of these Advisories should not be allowed near an Operation game board let alone a live human being! Thankfully Marianne’s advisory managed to re-assemble their patient and, quite literally, walked away with the chocolates!
As Anzac Day was due to be held over the weekend, we found it important to recognise the sacrifices made by those who have fought for our country. With Charly providing a brief overview of the importance of this national event.
Although there are certainly areas for us to focus on improving for our next Town Hall in week 8, we are generally pleased with our efforts. Particularly with a short preparation period due to our reduced first week.

Short Story by Fenix Jaitong
The umbral fields were just as dark as always. Inky black sand swirled with the souls of the damned and the winds carried the extra unfortunate below further. Sam trudged across the dunes, peering over the horizon. Not a single living being in sight. Other than him, of course. The sand rumbled and Sam stumbled back as a huge being emerged from below. It had a wolfish face with six glowing eyes that illuminated the land around it, allowing Sam to see the trapped souls with clarity. It stood on four legs and towered over Sam. It had multiple tails sprouting from it’s back and a spiny ridge that ran down its spine. It opened its mouth to speak and Sam could clearly see lines of serrated teeth, each dripping with potent, black venom.
“You should not have come here, human,” the beast rumbled. The sand shook when it spoke and the souls hurried away from it, clearly afraid of being killed a second time.
“Why do you pass through my domain?” It continued.
Sam thought for a moment, then decided to be honest.
“I was on my way to the kitchen,” he said simply. He felt no fear from the towering beast before him. At this point, it was just part of his day.
“You ended up… on the twelfth plane of torment… on the way to the kitchen?” The beast asked, a note of amusement in its voice.
“I am not a clever man.”
The beast regarded him for a moment, then smiled. It was a beast-like smile and its body started shaking. A low rumble emitted from its throat, quietly at first then loud enough to drown out a thunderstorm.
“You amuse me, human,” the beast chuckled. “Very well. Leave this place quickly.”
The world spun around Sam and he sank into the sand.
As soon as his head was under the sand, he stumbled into his kitchen. It was an ordinary kitchen, albeit with some sticky notes on the fridge.
“Note to self,” Sam muttered, writing up another sticky note. “The demonic portal down the stairs is not the way to the kitchen.”
He stuck the note on the fridge.
Once he finished, his stomach growled and he made a sandwich.

My Project - History of Native American People
During the first term holidays I travelled to Canberra, where I met with seven Latin American Embassies (Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Guatemala, Argentina, Ecuador and Cuba), the Embassy of Spain and a writer from Chile.
The reason that I met with these groups was because my personal interest project is focussed on exploring the histories of Native American people, with my focus being around the history of Indigenous Mexicans. It was a very interesting experience and I feel very privileged to have had a chance to meet with representatives from these embassies.

All Schools MTB Championships
Friday 6th May saw the 2021 All Schools MTB Championships held at the Trevallyn Nature Reserve, with over 300 students taking part from across the state. This is the first time that students from the Launceston Big Picture School have competed in the event, with our team members needing to be commended on their support of each other throughout the day, and the positive attitudes they displayed whilst competing.
