Last Day of Term 2 |
Dear Families,
Term 2 is a busy one for our staff and our young people! Reporting and assessment will form a key part of our work; however, our processes are formative and staff are working hard at providing regular feedback to students on a lesson by lesson and daily basis.
As a school, we have spent time reviewing our processes regarding how we can best ensure that our families are regularly kept informed about progress being made at school. Staff and students have spent time reviewing our Weekly Catch-Up proformas and looking at “best practice” with how we can share this information with families. The outcome is that Advisory Teachers or students themselves will send home the details noted in these formal weekly conversations, every week. So, please keep an eye on your inbox for this communication.
All students will receive formal mid-year reports at the end of term. As always, if you would like to discuss anything regarding your child’s progress, please make an appointment with the office to see their advisory teacher.
Learning Through Interest (LTI)
I would like to congratulate those students who are currently participating in an LTI placement. Learning and exploring interests outside the four walls of our classrooms is an important and compulsory part of our learning design. A successful LTI placement is conducive to a positive learning program at school.
As a school we are working to support all students being involved in a placement by the middle of term. Please continue to have conversations at home with your young person about opportunities in this space- we really need families to assist with sourcing and establishing these important learning experiences.
Town Hall
Our weekly Town Hall meetings are a chance to celebrate the amazing learning that occurs in our school. They are always student led, have a focus on one of our values and include a guest speaker who shares interesting aspects from their life. We also reward and acknowledge students for demonstrating positive attitudes and commitment to learning through our “caught in the act” scheme. Building advisory culture and sense of belonging through very competitive challenges is also a highlight of Town Hall.

Staffing
I am pleased to announce that we have been allocated some additional staffing due to our increased enrolment numbers. Josh Harris has re-joined our team, three days per week and will support Learning Through Interest placements and work with Rob’s year 10 advisory class on Friday’s. Josh has worked at our school previously and has a strong and passionate understanding of the Big Picture Learning Design.
Congratulations Josh
Learning Plan Meetings
Thank you to our families who have already booked in for next week’s Monday and Wednesday learning plan meetings. These meetings are an important opportunity for our parents and families to engage more deeply with student learning. Often parents have less input into the learning of their children once they reach high school, but it is essential in our school that we always keep open the communication between home and school.
Our Newsletter
Please remember to ensure that you are able to keep up with our exciting news and events, subscribe to our Newsletter.
If are involved in a community organisation and would like to advertise in our newsletter, please contact our office. Where possible, we will be happy to assist.

Big Picture Learning
We are very proud of Sienna who graduated from our school last year.
Sienna was lost and lonely while learning at home. Everything changed when she found our school.
A group of schools that allows high school students to study all subjects in a small class with a single teacher could be part of a re-think of Australia’s education system.
Jewellery Making Project
Students with an interest in jewellery have been making enjoying getting creative.
Students have been coming up with their own designs, and growing in confidence every week.

Eureka Elphinwood Gardens
On Tuesday, May 2nd, students in Tuesday's craft group participated in a walk to Eureka Elphinwood Gardens and back to LBPS.
Students gave their creations they had made last term as a group to the elderly members that live there.
This consited of DIY card holders, clay pot plants and paper flowers.
Students also participated in a card game, spoke about their projects and shared what they have been working on thi sterm with the members of Eureka Elphinwood.
Alissia Cox-McKinnon - reflection
- I loved how we got to talk, laugh and play games with all members. I left feeling that we were all a family. We should definitly go back there
Cassie Donald - reflection
- It was a really good experience that i enjoyed. I liked how we all got to conhnect with different people in different age groups. It felt great being able to give our creations and recieve such wonderful feedback.

10C Personal Interst Posters

After much delibaration and conversations with other students and really digging deep into what specifically students want to learn about and investigate, our personal posters have nearly been completed.
Here are some of the intersting topics students have decided on.

Student Project
Kaden’s project for Term 2 is about sharing the stories of Veterans from the ADF.
He was very fortunate to be able to participate in an informational interview with the President of Launceston Branch of RSL, Mr Graeme Barnett. Kaden and Tom visited the RSL in South Launceston and were given a tour and conducted an interview.
Kaden would like to acknowledge and thank Graeme for his time and appreciated seeing many of the RSL displays and artefacts.
It has been wonderful to see the opportunity for student learning and the life experience gained from outlearning in our community.

INFORMING SCHOOL OF STUDENT ABSENECES
Your child’s Advisory Teacher records attendance daily using the DoE EduPoint system. Attendance is taken between 8:55am – 9:30am.
If your child is going to be absent, you will need to inform the school ASAP - otherwise the EduPoint system automatically marks the absence as ‘Unauthorised-Unexplained’ and this is not altered until communication is received from parents.
The preferred method of communication is to send the school an SMS 0427 016 460 (this is a short message service only, so you will not be able to ring the school on this number).
LBPS admin check the SMS service throughout the day and update any changes to student attendance.
You can of course ring the school direct on 6335 1500 and leave a voice message on the answer phone.
UPDATING STUDENT MEDICAL DETAILS
We are committed to ensuring that our information with regard to managing the wellbeing of our students is always accurate and updated.
If your son/daughter:
- has a medical need and would benefit from being supported by a medical action plan (MAP)
- currently has a Medical Action Plan at school but has had recent health changes and would benefit from their plan being adjusted and updated
- requires the support of medication during the school day
- has any other medical or mental health needs (new or needing to be updated)
We ask that you please complete the relevant attached form and return to our office ASAP.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
Please ensure your student keeps their school polo top in their bag or keeps it safe in their Advisory room at all times.
It is compulsory for students to wear their school uniform when attending school excursions, interviews, LTIs or if they are representing the school at events.
Uniforms can be purchased from the school office and are sold at cost price:
- Polo Shirts with school logo = $30
- School Hoody with school logo = $65
Any pre-worn uniform donations would be very much appreciated and are used in our emergency uniform/clothing pool.
PARKING
It is highly recommended that parents and visitors to the school DO NOT PARK along the nature strip in front of the school, along the footpath or on the grass area beside UTas Stadium.
The City Council have recently approached the school and have informed staff that this area is being patrolled and $86.00 infringements are being issued.
Parents and visitors are advised to use the paid parking facilities at the Inveresk Car Park (next to Blue Cafe).
